FAQs

How do I sign up?

Customers will be able to sign up via the microsite at www.tote.co.uk/ten-to-follow or via www.tote.co.uk/ten-to-follow/racing-post.

Any existing tote account holders will be able to login with their existing tote.co.uk username and password.

Who is eligible to play?

The 2023/24 Jumps season Tote Ten to Follow is available to players based in UK and Ireland.

As with any betting product, we need to confirm all players are 18 or over, so all customers will need to give accurate name, address and date of birth details.

Will we have a paper-based entry option?

No, to remove complexity from the operation of the competition we will not be supporting a paper based sign-up option. This is in line with the previous Jumps Season Ten to Follow.

When can I enter and what is the deadline for entries?

The Tote Ten to Follow competition for the national Hunt season opens at 11am on Wednesday 23rd October, with a deadline for entries of 11am on Friday 15th November 2024 to enter your stables. Point scoring starts that very afternoon, with the Friday of Cheltenham's November meeting headlining the first day of Ten To Follow action over Jumps. Stables can then pick up points all the way through to Grand National day at Aintree on Saturday 5th April 2025.

Why would I enter my stable early?

If two or more stables score exactly the same points, the time the stable was purchased is the deciding factor for which entry takes the highest rank.

Can I change my selections?

Yes. You can build and pay for your stable, but then change your mind on your selections at any point up to the deadline.

How do payouts work?

For the 2024/25 Jumps Ten To Follow game, Tote will take 10% commission on each Paid Competition entry to go towards providing the free competition prizes and a small way towards covering the costs of operating the competition. All remaining money collected will be redistributed as prizes.

The highest scoring Stable at the end of the competition will win 60% of the season win prize pool (as calculated below), with additional prizes for second (2nd) to tenth (10th) place finishes. In addition, the highest scoring Stable in each of the calendar months of December 2023, January 2024, February 2024, and March 2024 will be awarded a prize of 3% of the total net pool after the Tote has deducted its 10% commission.

The pool will be guaranteed at a minimum of £100,000 in stakes from paid entries. If the value of paid entries is below £100,000 after the competition closes for entries, Tote will contribute the difference to total £100,000 in stakes for the purposes of the prize pool.

The Season Win Pool is calculated as follows:

Position % of season win pool* £100,000 total prize pool
1st 60% £54,000
2nd 10% £9,000
3rd 5% £4,500

Season Win Pool Total = 90% of Paid Competition Entries
What if two or more stables score exactly the same points?

Should more than one Stable score the same winning score, the stables will be ordered in the order they were purchased (or in the case of free stables, submitted) with the earliest timestamp gaining precedence. This is designed to reward those who engage early.

Note: you can make unlimited changes to your stable after you’ve paid for it, but before the deadline.

How will the "transfer window" work?

The transfer window will operate between 11am Monday 3rd March 2025 and 5pm Monday 10th March 2025 before the Cheltenham Festival. This is to give people the chance to replace horses who may be out for the season, or simply to freshen up your list for the latter part of the season. You do not lose the points already scored from a horse if you substitute it out and the new horse will start scoring immediately after being substituted in.

How will the competition deal with deceased or injured runners?

Once the competition has started, there will be no special treatment of deceased or injured runners

What horses will be eligible to be selected?

In partnership with the Racing Post, we will publish an initial list of over 500-runners, but add to this list as fresh candidates emerge from the early races.

The list will be compiled by experts from the Racing Post, but if you believe a horse should be included in the competition you can suggest one for consideration by emailing us on feedback@tote.co.uk or getting in touch with us via twitter on @toteracing

The list will be closed to additions at 5pm on Wednesday 13th November, leaving a 36-hour window for any late entries or final tweaks of existing lists.

How do my horses score points?

Horses score points by winning and being placed in races taking place during the competition.  The score is based on a combination of points based on the group of the race and the Tote dividend of your successful selection.

You score more points the better the grade of race, and there are 21 bonus races where bonus points are scored.

Points are awarded as follows:

Grade 1 win - 25 points
Grade 2 win - 20 points
Grade 3 win (Premier Handicap) - 15 points
Listed win - 12 points
Any other race win - 10 points
An additional 25 points are awarded to winners, and 12 points are awarded to the runners-up in the bonus races listed below.

The bonus races are:

  • Betfair Chase (Haydock)
  • Coral Gold Cup (Newbury)
  • Tingle Creek Chase (Sandown)
  • King George VI Chase (Kempton)
  • Welsh Grand National (Chepstow)
  • Savills Chase (Leopardstown)
  • Irish Champion Hurdle (Leopardstown)
  • Irish Gold Cup (Leopardstown)
  • Betfair Hurdle (Newbury)
  • Arkle Chase (Cheltenham)
  • Champion Hurdle (Cheltenham)
  • Queen Mother Champion Chase (Cheltenham)
  • Brown Advisory Chase (Cheltenham)
  • Stayers’ Hurdle (Cheltenham),
  • Ryanair Chase (Cheltenham)
  • Gold Cup (Cheltenham)
  • Betway Bowl (Aintree)
  • Aintree Hurdle (Aintree)
  • Melling Chase (Aintree)
  • Liverpool Stayers’ Hurdle (Aintree)
  • Grand National (Aintree)

Points will also be awarded based on the returns to a £1 each-way bet on the Tote price (as published in the Racing Post) in each race a horse runs in. For races outside the UK and Ireland, the Tote returns used will be the tote return local to that racecourse as published by the Racing Post.

Example: £1 win at 5.50 + £1 place at 1.20 = 6.70 points awarded.
Points will also be awarded based on the returns to a £1 each-way bet on the Tote in each race a horse runs in. Example: £1 win at 5.50 + £1 place at 1.20 = 6.70 points awarded.

How does the Smart Pick work?

The Smart Pick auto-fill algorithm intelligently designed to select the best horses for your stable. Whether you just want the algo to pick 1, 2, or up to all 10 horses, it will pick a balanced stable of horses optimised to score the most points across the season.

Using historical data and TTF performance, the algorithm has been fine-tuned to select the optimum balance of stable. This includes targeting bonus races, selecting “bankers” aimed at ensuring the points rack up throughout the season, and picking wildcard horses that can make the all-important difference.

What happens if a bonus race is run at a different racecourse?

The bonus races count regardless of which racecourse they are run at.

Which races count for points?

Points can be scored in all races run under jumps racing rules in the UK and Ireland only in the period the competition is active (11am 15th November 2024 to 11.59pm 5th April 2025).

How can I tell how many points I’ve scored?

Scores are updated for each horse within 30-minutes of the race result being made official, and the league tables update simultaneously.

Can I play in a private league?

As soon as you create a stable you will be able to create a Private League. Click “Create a Private League”, allocate one of your stables to that league and you will be given a PIN number to share with your friends.

How do I join a private league?

Once you’ve created a stable, you can join a private league. Click “Join a League”, enter the PIN your friend has shared with you, select which of your stables you want to use and you’re in. Choose wisely though. You can only enter one of your stables into each private league.

Why am I limited to one stable per private league?

To keep it fair and to prevent one player dominating the league, we have restricted each league to a maximum of one stable per player. This also prevents a player throwing a high scoring stable into a league at the end of the competition.

When will we know what the prize pool is?

As soon as the competition starts, we will publish the breakdown of the prize pool, so players know exactly what they’re competing for.

What customer service will be available for Ten to Follow?

Tote customer service support will be available via www.tote.co.uk.

The tote.co.uk/ten-to-follow gives the latest news on all horses in the competition.

  • For the purpose of calculating the monthly prizes, every Stable score is set to zero at the start of each month (this will not affect the accrual of Stable points for the purpose of the season long competition).
  • Winners will be paid directly into their tote accounts, where the balance can be withdrawn using the normal withdrawal process.

Smart Pick

  • The ‘Smart Pick’ auto-fill algorithm is intelligently designed to select the best horses to help maximise points for your Stable. The algorithm considers a range of data points to help calculate suggested picks for your Stable according to an historically optimal balance as used by previous high-scoring Stables in previous Competitions. Whether you just want the algo to pick 1, 2, or up to all 10 horses, it will pick a balanced Stable of horses optimised to score the most points across the season.
  • The ‘Smart Pick’ feature is designed as a tool to aid in the selection of your stable, but is no guarantee of performance and we accept no liability in this respect. You are responsible for your own decision with regards the submission of any Stable entries. Whilst we have provided details on the potential benefits of the Smart Pick functionality we do not and will not provide any formal advice in relation to a Stable in the Paid Competition or Free-To-Play Competition (together the “Competitions”). You must rely on your own judgement in deciding to enter a Stable into the Competitions.

General Rules

  • You can monitor your entry online (either at www.tote.co.uk/ten-to-follow or www.tote.co.uk/ten-to-follow/racing-post), where an updated leaderboard will display the highest scores in both the Free-to-Play Competition and the Paid Competition at any given time.
  • You will have the opportunity to make online substitutions during a transfer window, which will open from 11am Monday 3rd March to 5pm Monday 10th March 2025 to coincide with the start of the Cheltenham Festival. A maximum of two (2) substitutions per Stable will be permitted. We reserve the right to modify the list of horses available for selection at any point during the competition.
  • Stables only score points for horses while they are active in their Stable. If Horse A is substituted from a Stable and replaced with a new Horse B, the Stable retains the points already scored by Horse A while Horse A was part of the Stable but earns no further points in respect of Horse A following substitution, and Horse B only begins to start scoring points for its new Stable once that substitution is complete. The Stable does not inherit points already scored by Horse B while it was outside the Stable.
  • A horse will be eligible to score points for your Stable as soon as the substitution is complete. The Substitution window does not need to close on 10th March 2025 before the horse can score points for your Stable.
  • These rules are issued by TDCO Limited, 6th floor, 6 Kean Street, London, WC2B 4AS, trading as “Tote”.
  • TDCO Limited reserves the right to amend or alter these terms and conditions.
  • Please bet responsibly – for help and advice please see the responsible gambling pages on our website and/or visit www.gambleaware.co.uk.

  • Should more than one Stable score the same winning score, the Stables will be ranked in the order they were purchased (or in the case of free Stables, submitted) and the earliest submission will be awarded the prize. The selections within each Stable can be changed freely up until the competition closes for entries at 11am on Friday 15th November 2024. For the avoidance of doubt, each Stable will be timestamped when it is paid for (or in the case of free Stables, initially submitted), and not when any selections are subsequently made or Stables otherwise amended.
